Serenade: A complimentary performance given to honor or express love for someone, or something.
I really am speechless right now. I will return to camp on Wed. They are having an evening practice in the main stadium which should be pretty fun. St. Joseph is filled with courteous people. Very nice people that are thrilled to welcome Kansas City Chief fans to their home city. The college is very nice. The complex is also equally impressive.
The parking is horrible. The walk from the parking to the practice fields is very difficult. The premium parking is $10, and if you leave after the morning practice for lunch, and then return for the afternoon practice, you have to pay the $10 again. This, we are not happy about.
The separation of the players from the fans this year is very much noticeable. It's very difficult to snap any decent pictures, especially now that they have moved the gates even further away where the players enter the fields.
The temperature is very hard to bear. Especially for a bald guy. Very hot. I can only imagine how hot the players are in their pads. I have a friend who attended the first day with us, who never wants to return again. He has attended training camp at River Falls, WI for the last 5 years. Again, I am still speechless.
Don't get me wrong. Being able to attend, and be part of this is very special to me. I don't want to come off like I am complaining. But dealing with the harsh reality that this is about money, is like a thorn in my side.
You have to walk through a tent of local St. Joe advertising before you even get to the practice fields. You have to walk through the Chiefs store after you walk through the St. Joe tent. Everyone is smiling. Everybody is polite. Everybody makes me feel welcome.
But why do I feel this way? Why is it so hard for me to fall in love with St. Joseph?
Was River Falls, Wisconsin that much better? Maybe it was.
But this is still the Kansas City Chiefs. As a fan, I must continue to conform with the expansion of the NFL every day. Todd Haley mentioned yesterday in his press conference that he hated a certain expression....The first time I ever thought to disagree with our great new coach. That expression was this:
It is what it is.
This is Barry, signing out. See ya all at the scrimmage on Wed.
